The SMARTsite:About
From The SMARTsite
Welcome to The SMARTsite! The best and free source of information on Appropriate Technology for developing countries and, one that you can edit!
Goal
The SMARTsite aims to disseminate information on technical solutions that are innovative, easy to use, robust, easy to maintain and above all technologies that potentially improve the standard of living for people in developing countries to all people that are able to further disseminate these technologies to potential beneficiaries.
How will we achieve this goal
The SMARTsite facilitates the exchange and optimization of technologies. Of course we are aware that a large part of our target beneficiaries are not able to browse the internet due to lack of access or literacy. In order to disseminate the technologies collected on The SMARTsite, we:
- offer no barrier and free access to all articles published on The SMARTsite;
- are happy to participate in other modes of dissemination then the Internet;
- encourage organizations to publish collections of the articles appropriate to their regions;
- encourage (local) media to run featured articles on technologies published;
- publish all articles under Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 Creative Commons Public License for free and fair use.
General guidelines for articles
1. Keep descriptions simple.
2. Use simple graphical representations and instructions as much as possible.
3. Use clear language.
You can also upload documents containing descriptions using the upload page when you are logged in.
Feel free to create a (free) account and help facilitate the extended use of appropriate technology.
The SMARTsite is an initiative of Kiungo, a young project management and consultancy firm aiming to stimulate sustainable private sector development in developing countries.
Please contact Pepijn Steemers if you have suggestions or are interested in making a contribution to this project.
